Brookland, Washington, DC

Located on a site with an abandoned half-built construction project, the 3-unit residential building brings a blighted site back to life with colorful cedar siding, board and batten fiber cement panels, and a black steel structure. For economical purposes and to prevent more waste, the team worked through challenges of keeping and incorporating as much of the existing structure as possible. This resulted in unique opportunities to have steel I-beams cut through and frame the living spaces. The project was completed in the spring of 2018 and adds to the growing stock of units along 12th Street NE.
