Columbia Heights NW, Washington, DC

The Square 134 team led an extensive renovation of The Fitzgerald, an existing apartment building abutting Rock Creek Park in the Columbia Heights neighborhood of Washington, DC. The Fitzgerald was a 23 unit building, constructed in the 1920’s. At commencement of the project, the building was sparsely occupied and in need of updated modern amenities. The original structure offered one, two, and three bedroom units with an unfinished basement that housed mechanical space. The renovation included reallocating unit space as well as upgrades to both interior and exterior common areas. The historic lobby was restored to maintain the character of the building, and amenities including bike storage, picnic area, outdoor grills, and a dog run were added. The upper floors that originally housed the larger units were reconfigured to achieve greater efficiency of space, adding 13 units to the boutique apartment building for a total of 36 units at completion of the renovation.
